Frozen – Review

23 Mar

First off, I love my brother and sisters deeply, can’t conceive a world without them! And not because I just saw Frozen but every day ….

I do my thing, you do yours, just don't screw up.

I do my thing, you do yours, just don’t screw up.

Frozen, quite surprising.

I was mostly curious about the Oscar-winning song, but, to be honest, it was the film that left me thinking if the movie I just saw was Disney,  a decent try to step out of the box non the less.

I enjoyed it maybe close to the way I enjoyed old Pixar, and that is a good thing. I also liked the proposed target audience, not for kids only (I know some children hated the snow monster).

It was close to Brave, in terms of portraying family values, upbringing and how to build strong personalities, again… none of that is a bad thing.

The song is pretty cool yes, the film is ok, funny and entertaining… the average for the genre, at least there’s effort to bring something to the table.

But I wonder when will an animated film  be as revolutionary and creative that just adults can go and see it “sans kids” (and I am talking about decent animations not the R rated type) something like Studio Gigli, or Toy Story, UP or Wall. E. Dont we miss those kind of films? I kind of do.

I will refer to my imaginary rating system and give it an: OK you are just fine!

American Hustle – Review

12 Mar

It was colorful, fast paced, interesting photography, cool directing, great dresses and amazing boobs.

Good soundtrack!

Good soundtrack!

But, I didn’t feel the era, didn’t feel transported to that time where people embraced the curl and synthetic materials, it was just a love story, a survival story, a very awkward situation with Oceans 11 or The Italian Job elements plastered all around trying to make it up for the star studded cast.

I felt the story, although in parts real, it was too far-fetched and dragged too long, maybe to give some screen time to some of the actors… I dont know, but, I love me some Jennifer Lawrence any time, but her character was too forced, some unnecessary scenes here and there…great performance but well… it just wasn’t a character to remember.

And that is where I want to go, none of the actors blended or disappeared into their roles, (well, I know not everyone can be Meryl Streep), for instance I could still see Bradley Cooper panicking in Bangkok and Batman’s voice all over the place but it was Amy Adams unbelievably bad British accent that threw me off and lost all hope.

This year the nominated for the awards were so different and specially entertaining in their own way, that it is hard to compare with one another, one thing is clear tough, American Husle was just entertainment, not a real contender in my point of view.

A Million Ways To Die In The West – Trailer

3 Feb

Well, I guess we must laugh at any cost!

The secret life of Walter Mitty

13 Jan

A kind of film made for the people, not for the critics, or the glory.

A film for the spectator to question life from the inside out.

Is this the real life?, is this just fantasy? caught in a landslide, no escape from reality.

Is this the real life?, is this just fantasy? caught in a landslide, no escape from reality.

The doer Vs the watcher.

Me asleep Vs  Me awake.

I think I have seen all of Ben Stiller’s films, he has this particular way to direct, he wants things natural, to inject a bit of reality without going overboard if I may say, the human touch… it is just that at one point his films lack flavor; yes, flavor was the word, because we can be mesmerized by the characters (the very good acting) or the soundtrack, the story itself might be interesting, but things happen too easily…

Do not get me wrong, I am the people, the film was for me, took me for a ride, made  me question my own reality, I felt sad and happy, my kind of adventure, after watching it I am sure this film goes to my collection!

I just think Stiller needs to risk more, he has it in him, it is a great step forward to become one of those legendary directors.

I recommend it, people on their middle-age crisis should probably skip it… it is too late for you 🙂

Nah… forget it it is never too late to start living!

Last Century Film – Moonstruck

1 Sep

Life is simple and not so complicated, the moment you realize that love is not an option and companionship is an easy way out, you are basically done for.

Thanks to destiny and everything against a boring, dull life, we can be saved by Nicolas Cage, sorry… by just letting yourself go. moonstruck

Moonstruck is a very nice oldie were we get to see Cher win her Oscar. We also get a pretty good picture of how we over-think things and tend to complicate our lives in the most unbelievable ways.

We are all full with a bunch of stories in our heads, but it is the full moon that shows up once in a while covering our city with the most insane light, the one with the power to let us do whatever we want, (if you ever needed a reason to stop your drama, here you go, blame it on the moon).

It is a quick, no fuss film with very good performances and very consistent comedic vibe.

Give it a try, hard to be disappointed when you just want to relax and have a good time!

Community – When Television is worth it!

22 Aug

community

I know this is not a surprise to anyone when I say that Community is TV´s perfect comedy.

And I love the BBT! so to say that Community is better is a huge step for me.

I have spent the last 10 days marathon watching, (again) in a very sane and relaxed way (OK I know I have a problem) the TV show , who happens to be on the edge of cancellation and possibly a movie, like every cool amazing show on the wrong network!

I must say that loving TV and movies as much as I do and being able to watch how a TV show goes crazy paying homage to classics, trully making a different kind of comedy and creating a much evolved (at least in my mind) fan base.

I specially appreciate the diversity of the characters and how naturally creepy they are… they remind me of my college pals,

Well, I don’t know, some people don’t like the show, awesome people love it!

Moments of uncertainty in season 4 and now season 5 will happen, it is awesome we will get at least 13 episodes more… would have loved the 22!

I hope NBC saves Community…
